Nowhere is more magical than the forest at this blissful hour of the day, when the light begins to fade and the last of the sun casts an ethereal glow over scenery far and wide. Tips of leaves ooze with gold while the sky turns a shade of blue the loveliest I have seen.
These late autumn days bring me so much joy and peace: the crisp fresh air, the season’s palette visible in every corner, clusters of leaves crunching below our feet. We made our familiar journey up the hill, past a couple of curious ponies who came to say hello, and paused to take in the beautiful landscape before us.
Sometimes the most trodden path can be the prettiest, a place we know like the back of our hand. It’s here in this tucked-away spot in the forest that we’ve spent the majority of this year outside, and I couldn’t be more grateful for it. Calm, quiet and still, it feels like our own escape from the world.
Wonderful as always, this dose of fresh air was just what we needed to end a delightful day. As the sun disappeared beyond the horizon, it was time to make our way home and enjoy a post-walk glass of Chenin Blanc by the flickering fire.
