Beginning our magical first evening in Nice after sumptuous pre-dinner cocktails at the Negresco, we arrived at Le Plongeoir, a romantic restaurant perched on top of a boulder in the Mediterranean Sea. It was an idyllic start to our short and sweet stay on the French Riviera.
We dined and drank champagne, the sound of crashing waves beneath us forming a stark contrast to the glittering calmness of water in the distance, sparkling with the reflection of the early evening sun.
Our waiter, himself glistening from the heat, first brought out starters of citrusy tuna and grilled octopus, followed by delicious risotto and catch of the day. Each mouthful was more delectable than the last, our taste buds dancing away to the aromas of Provençal fare.

Stomachs full, we carefully made our way down the steps to the lounge bar, level with the waves breaking against the rocks, a delicate spray of salty sea water grazing our feet. With digestifs in hand, we watched the sun slowly disappear behind the horizon, mesmerised by the beauty of our setting, falling in love with Nice with each passing moment.
There’s no doubt that golden hour is my favourite time of day: the atmosphere always feels special, the fading light casting a pretty glow over its surroundings. I would have happily stayed in this spot forever but the thrill of exploring Nice with fresh eyes spurred us to amble our way back, ready for the next day to arrive.
