There may be little to look forward to in the upcoming months, but slowing down to notice the small moments that make each day special is one way to cope with it all. These past two weeks or so, I’ve been taking extra care to be present in the moment, conscious of my surroundings. Taking joy in the small things in life, like the delicate whisper of spring in the air or the way the evening light catches the tip of each flower petal, lifts that weight hanging over us all; it’s ever so slight but enough to make a difference.
The light as I finish work for the day
Each evening come six o’clock, I switch off the computer, gather up my empty cups of tea, and make my way downstairs, the joyous transition from work to respite. Twilight will always be my favourite time of day, and our north-west facing kitchen has such beautiful light at this hour. Catching the last of the glimmering sun, the flowers lining our windowsill glow in the most ethereal way, bringing a trace of magic to an otherwise mundane day.
A hint of spring in the air
How blessed have we been with the mild climate this week? It’s almost as if Mother Nature is nurturing us, easing the anxiety surrounding us with a dash of pleasant weather. Feeling the warmth of spring on my skin brings about a sense of calm for better things to come. When I’m working I have the window open, the curtain gently billowing in the breeze, fresh spring air filling the room with a breath of hope. Lunchtimes are spent outside in the garden, underneath blue skies.
Flowers blossoming outside
March is the month of cherry blossoms bringing colour to drab winter streets, speckles of pink and white around every corner. Although we can’t enjoy the outdoors freely, I’m so happy to see the plum tree in our garden starting to sprout buds again. The whole world feels more joyful and still when the season’s flowers begin to bloom.
What are some of the small joys in your daily life this month?
